LifeSize Advances HD Video Communications with New and Updated Infrastructure, Management, and Endpoint Capabilities

Enhancements to Video Conferencing Solutions Enable More Seamless Integration in Customer Networks for Improved Collaboration and Productivity

AUSTIN, Texas, July 20, 2010 – LifeSize® Communications, a division of Logitech (Nasdaq: LOGI) (SIX: LOGN), today announced new high definition video conferencing offerings and product enhancements to help enterprises – including teleworkers, mobile employees and executives – collaborate more efficiently, with more robust deployment and management capabilities for IT administrators.

HD data sharing now available for remote desktops and small conference rooms

The newest version of the LifeSize system software, Version 4.7, lets organizations share information such as presentations and spreadsheets over the network using the LifeSize Passport™ system and the recently announced integrated video conferencing system called LGExecutive, powered by LifeSize. A new software application, LifeSize Virtual Link™, enables this data sharing with the use of a PC or Mac. The Version 4.7 software also enables LifeSize Passport and LGExecutive, powered by LifeSize, to stream live HD Video and record, via the LifeSize Video Center. In addition, the LifeSize Desktop™ updated Version 2.0 software now supports data sharing and 720p HD transmit capability for more productive discussions and meetings.

Infrastructure enhancements for broader, more secure deployment and easier administration

The new LifeSize Transit™ Client, combined with LifeSize Transit™ Server, provides a complete state-of-the-art network address translation (NAT) and firewall traversal solution for businesses, to ensure HD video calls can be made reliably both within and outside the organization. The unique Transit Client is the only solution in the market available as either a hardware appliance or a virtual machine option, allowing enterprises to deploy a firewall/NAT traversal solution virtually in their existing server farms without the need to provision extra equipment. In addition, LifeSize Control™, Version 5.0 video management software now ensures IT administrators can more easily manage critical elements of the network, maintaining reliable HD video conferencing, even in heterogeneous video environments. Specifically, LifeSize has designed Control 5.0 to fit any business environment, with new support for LifeSize Desktop and LifeSize Video Center, Google® calendar and scheduling integration, and user-customizable administrator settings and directories.

Supporting Quotes

"These new offerings and product enhancements from LifeSize allow organizations to ensure HD video communications capabilities are broadly available with the highest quality of experience,” said Craig Malloy, CEO of LifeSize Communications. “With every new innovation and advancement, we continue to make good on our promise for HD video communication to become as ubiquitous and easy as a telephone call.”

"Video communications have become a critical tool for improving business capabilities," said Hyoun Park, research analyst, Aberdeen Group. “LifeSize provides practical, value-driven, and cost-effective video applications that match the value proposition identified in Aberdeen's research. By simplifying B2B video communications, bringing data sharing capabilities to the desktop, providing video streaming and recording capabilities on a personal level, and improving video management capabilities, Lifesize has enhanced the business video ecosystem. These new products will help reduce the cost structure and support burden for IT personnel seeking to deploy video throughout the enterprise.”

Pricing and Availability

LifeSize Virtual Link will be available this month for download for existing LifeSize Passport customers at www.lifesize.com/Products/Accessories/Virtual_Link.aspx. LGExecutive, powered by LifeSize, is priced at U.S. $2,999 and is expected to be available in the third calendar quarter of 2010. LifeSize HD Video Conferencing Plays Invaluable Role in Success for Virgin Mobile India

Leading mobile service provider uses LifeSize to reduce travel by 20 percent while enhancing communications and productivity

Editorial Contact

Jacey Overton, LifeSize Communications - USA (512) 623-4215 - PR@lifesize.com

AUSTIN, Texas, Aug. 24, 2010 – Building a new business in the Indian market is a significant undertaking, even for one of the world's most recognized and respected brands. For Virgin Mobile India, creating the nation’s first youth-focused mobile service required an ability to scale both geographically and operationally. Given this need, Virgin Mobile India standardized on HD video conferencing solutions from LifeSize® Communications, a division of Logitech (Nasdaq: LOGI) (SIX: LOGN), enabling the company to reduce travel by 20 percent since implementation.

“I never expected video communications to be so mission critical,” said Sanjay Singh, general manager - operations for Virgin Mobile India. “We’ve cut air travel, yet productivity and collaboration have increased because everyone – from product management to marketing and IT – is meeting face to face everyday. Measured by travel savings alone, we realized our ROI in just six months.”

Founded in early 2008 as a joint venture between Tata Teleservices and Richard Branson's Virgin Group, Virgin Mobile India was Virgin’s largest investment to date in India, making it critical for the new company to scale quickly and become a viable service provider in the Indian market. However, in the year before the official launch of Virgin Mobile India, frequent travel between the company’s primary operations in Mumbai and New Delhi had become time intensive and financially restrictive. Implementing an alternative to travel became an urgent need, leading Virgin Mobile India to LifeSize.

For video conferencing to be successful for Virgin Mobile India, the systems needed to deliver superb audio/video quality, integrate easily with Virgin’s existing unified communications (UC) tools, and operate at low bandwidths considering that some of Virgin Mobile India’s locations can achieve a maximum upload speed of 512 kilobits per second. Following an evaluation process, Virgin Mobile India selected LifeSize® Room™ HD video conferencing systems for the company’s corporate offices in Mumbai and New Delhi. The system’s built-in HD multipoint control unit (MCU) allows users to establish video calls with up to six other sites, allowing teams in multiple locations to easily collaborate in real time. LifeSize systems have been so successful that Virgin Mobile India plans to expand its LifeSize network as the company adds 10 new regional offices over the next two years.

“India has been focused on establishing itself as a knowledge-based society and, with the commensurate rapid growth in broadband penetration across the country, the opportunities for Indian companies to use video conferencing have never been greater,” said Craig Malloy, chief executive officer, LifeSize Communications. “Virgin Mobile India is at the leading edge of a revolution in communications in India and LifeSize is proud to have earned its trust as a key technology provider.”

A case study detailing Virgin Mobile India’s experience with LifeSize high definition video conferencing systems is available for download at: http://www.lifesize.com/VideoConferencing_for_Virgin_Mobile_India.

Mobiles Arbeiten: Unternehmensnetze dank CleanAir Technologie von Cisco störungsfrei - Pressemeldungen 2010

27.04.2010

Bessere Skalierung – niedrigere Betriebskosten

Updates to LifeSize Video Center Facilitate Easier and More Widespread HD Video Conferencing Recording and Viewing

New Features Enrich the User Experience and Improve Management, Reporting, and Distribution of Content into Customer Environments

AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 12, 2010 - LifeSize®, a division of Logitech (Nasdaq: LOGI) (SIX: LOGN), today announced new administrative and end user controls to manage, brand, and distribute videos recorded with LifeSize Video Center. This HD video conferencing infrastructure solution combines one-button recording, streaming and auto-publishing, transforming the way organizations create and distribute information.

The latest software update for LifeSize Video Center better enables organizations to meet a broad set of needs and applications – including corporate communications, training, education, distance learning, and healthcare. With the new capabilities, end users can more easily communicate business-critical information both live and on demand for improved collaboration and increased communication across the organization.

New features of LifeSize Video Center include:

Management: The latest software release for LifeSize Video Center, Version 1.1, allows administrators to seamlessly integrate LifeSize Video Center into any Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) server, including Active Directory. A one-time configuration for the entire organization gives IT teams more centralized, simplified management for both individual users and groups. Reporting: The Version 1.1 software also gives IT administrators access to rich, built-in reports to track video viewing statistics, allowing administrators to understand user behavior, system usage and ROI. Branding & Customization: Administrators can tailor the look and feel of LifeSize Video Center’s Web UI to fit the customer’s corporate branding. Straightforward controls allow administrators to place the company’s logo, unique browser icons and key messages within the user-facing pages.  Embedding video URLs: The new software also allows HD videos hosted on LifeSize Video Center to be embedded within any other Web page. Now, company intranet sites and outward facing corporate pages can showcase product demos and key positioning announcements recorded and streamed directly from LifeSize Video Center. Recording capabilities for all LifeSize endpoints: LifeSize Video Center now allows users to record content directly from all current LifeSize and standards-based third party endpoints.

"LifeSize Video Center is an unparalleled product that allows users to clearly and easily get their message across, no matter the time or distance. For example, we are using LifeSize Video Center to capture professors’ lectures, in simulation training for our department of nursing and for internal admissions training to our remote campuses,” said Tom Umphress, information services director, Globe University/Minnesota School of Business. “We look forward to implementing the new features of Version 1.1, especially the LDAP connectivity, embedding of videos and branding components. When a student logs into the web portal to view a lecture they will be able to use their standard student login and they will see the Globe University/Minnesota School of Business logo, which creates a truly seamless user experience between the university and the IT back-end. That’s what makes LifeSize Video Center so applicable for us.”

In addition, LifeSize is developing an Application Programming Interface (API) to enable technology companies to integrate with LifeSize Video Center. Under a sales and marketing partnership with LifeSize, VBrick Systems, headquartered in Wallingford, Conn., will use the API to combine LifeSize Video Center with the VBrick enterprise IP video platform for content management, distribution, and integration with unified communications platforms such as Microsoft OCS, Microsoft SharePoint, and IBM SameTime.

By the end of the year, joint customers will be able to use LifeSize Video Center with VBrick Enterprise Media System (VEMS), VBrick HD Reflectors and VBrick Online Streaming Services (VBoss) to better manage content, more efficiently stream content across disparate networks to multiple users, to multicast video on local area networks, and to easily stream video over the Internet.

“Our partnership with LifeSize will ensure that our joint customers can simply and efficiently create compelling video content and distribute it to the entire enterprise,” said John Shaw, chief operating officer, VBrick Systems. “VBrick System’s renowned enterprise IP video platform bridges the gap between video conferencing and IP video streaming, and LifeSize Video Center is the ideal product to integrate with because of its ease of recording and high quality video images.”

“The updates to LifeSize Video Center demonstrate how rapidly we can respond to customer feedback with features that continually make it easier for them to extend the reach of high-quality video conferencing in their organizations,” said Michael Helmbrecht, vice president of product marketing for LifeSize. “The API we are developing will extend the power of the Video Center platform by enabling interoperability with leading players in the broader video conferencing ecosystem such as VBrick.”

HD Video Conferencing Over The Internet? Network Requirements Ease Up

10/14/2010
HD Video Conferencing Over The Internet? Network Requirements Ease Up
Jessica Scarpati, SearchUnifiedCommunications

HD video conferencing network requirements are going down along with equipment costs, making the technology more accessible to organizations that can't afford multi-screen telepresence systems with requirements of 3-or 4-megabit pipes per screen, according to Rick Snyder, chairman of the Interactive Multimedia Collaboration & Communications Alliance industry group. Enterprises with security concerns and strict quality of service requirements will probably stick to high capacity, private WAN links. But in the growth in enterprise mobility is driving vendors to develop HD video conferencing platforms which use bandwidth more efficiently and are less susceptible to latency, Snyder said.

LifeSize Bridge Ushers in Modular Video Conferencing at Highest HD Quality Available

New solution scales intelligently, making Full HD quality accessible for organizations needing multiparty video communications

AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 20, 2010 - Whether new to video conferencing or seeking a more flexible way to deploy it, organizations have a new option in the LifeSize® Bridge™ 2200, announced today by LifeSize, a division of Logitech (Nasdaq: LOGI) (SIX: LOGN). This 16-port product enables organizations to take a building block approach, scaling video conferencing deployments as needed while providing the best high definition (HD) experience available on the market.

Based on a modular Full HD architecture, the approximately $4,000 per port LifeSize Bridge empowers enterprises to purchase the appropriate number of bridges to accommodate their current video conferencing equipment needs and easily add capacity as the demand for HD video conferencing grows. Traditional solutions require IT decision-makers to predict their capacity needs far into the future, a counterintuitive process that can be difficult to defend when resources are limited and may result in unused capacity.

LifeSize Bridge eliminates the need for a large upfront investment, enabling businesses of every size to allocate resources only where needed to reduce the risk associated with guessing future capacity. In addition, the new bridge or multipoint control unit (MCU) allows IT administrators to take advantage of existing network architectures and put the bridge anywhere they have extra capacity, minimizing the need to make large bandwidth or other network infrastructure investments to fit their video conferencing needs.

Specific features of the new LifeSize Bridge include:

A Flexible, Modular System

Whether an organization is managed centrally or decentralized, LifeSize Bridge deploys easily and scales across existing resources, geographies, and standards-based video conferencing offerings. The product supports any codec, speed, resolution, layout or port without losing capacity or HD video quality, making it easy to support multiple conferences. In addition, LifeSize Bridge makes both scheduled and on demand conferencing simple for IT administrators and end users.

Highest HD Quality

Gone are the days of downgrading the quality for everyone on multiparty calls based on the lowest common denominator. LifeSize has developed a new MCU architecture utilizing flat capacity that enables all users to have the same rich HD experience with minimal IT oversight and effort required. The LifeSize Bridge symmetric approach to both 720p60 and 1080p30 receives a high-quality video stream in and transmits the same high-quality resolution without distortion. LifeSize Bridge supports more than 200 resolutions and also features sustained frame rates, a customized screen layout per participant, and up to four Mbps throughput.

Unmatched Price Performance

LifeSize Bridge offers flat capacity pricing for 16 ports regardless of the resolution—720p30, 720p60 or 1080p30. The price per 720p30, 720p60 and 1080p port is the lowest in the market and, at 720p60 and 1080p30 HD quality, the LifeSize Bridge is less than one-third the cost of others in the market.  And as the network of users grows, the LifeSize advantage grows with them. For the same money spent on a large, centralized chassis, the LifeSize Bridge can connect up to three times the number of users in full HD, helping them become more productive while saving organizations significant costs in travel budgets, technology investments, and IT and administrative support.

Supporting Quotes

SAS is excited about the potential of LifeSize Bridge to handle multiparty video calling at such high quality,” said Russ Cary, senior IT manager of SAS. “And LifeSize Bridge makes scheduling very easy whether we need to plan video conferences ahead of time or allow our end users to make calls on demand.”

Video conferencing via LifeSize is an important communications medium for Esterline, and the LifeSize Bridge would enable better collaboration with more of our employees across the U.S. and around the world,” said Mitch Irvine, corporate director of IT for Esterline Corp. “The LifeSize Bridge will help us expand our HD video footprint as our organization expands its video outreach.”

More than 70 percent of all videoconferencing infrastructure spending is on bridges, but the innovation in this segment has lagged behind that of other sectors in IT,” said Roopam Jain, principal analyst at Frost & Sullivan. “LifeSize Bridge is a boost to the maturity of this market, making a distributed approach to video networks more practical and achievable for all types of organizations who must do more with less without sacrificing quality.”

“LifeSize Bridge is a significant engineering accomplishment built upon our experience embedding bridges in our endpoint systems, with the aim of helping organizations empower their end users to collaborate freely without compromising the quality of the HD video experience,” said Casey King, chief technology officer of LifeSize. "LifeSize Bridge delivers unmatched quality with groundbreaking price performance for multiparty HD video calling that will scale intelligently within any organization. This product is a game changer.”

Pricing and Availability

LifeSize Bridge will be globally available by the end of the month for $64,999 U.S. MSRP.

Mercy Health Deploys LifeSize HD Video Conferencing to Improve Internal Communications and Increase Employee Safety

Editorial Contact

Chandra Hosek, LifeSize Communications – USA (512) 579-2136 - PR@lifesize.com

LifeSize® Communications, a division of Logitech (Nasdaq: LOGI) (SIX: LOGN) and a leading global provider of high definition (HD) video communications, has added Mercy Health to its list of healthcare clients.

Mercy Health and Aged Care Central Queensland Limited is a Catholic provider of health and aged care services with hospitals and aged care facilities in Queensland. The organization has installed LifeSize HD video conferencing solutions in six of its facilities and is already reaping the benefits of enhanced internal communication, collaboration, improved work/life balance and safety for its employees. Working with Instantly There, a LifeSize partner, Mercy installed a LifeSize Room 220™ in its corporate head office facility in Rockhampton and LifeSize Express™ and LifeSize Team 220™ systems in smaller meeting rooms and facilities in various locations in Central Queensland.

Marcia Healy, information systems officer at Mercy Health said the LifeSize system was easily integrated into their everyday business activities and has transformed internal communication within the organisation.

“Our employees are spread across many different locations so the video communications system has added a new speed and dimension to our internal communication. With this new system, we can meet more spontaneously. There is now no need to travel as frequently. We are also assured that there is no compromise on quality when meeting via video conferencing as the experience is as if you were meeting face to face. In particular, one of our surgeons has commented that since using LifeSize to participate in education sessions and peer reviews, he feels as though he is now actually participating with the other people as opposed to feeling like a distant observer.”

“An important benefit of installing the system is improved employee safety. Previously some staff had to drive up to eight hours to attend a regular two hour meeting. Reducing this travel has increased their productivity, enhanced work/life balance and has improved their safety by reducing the risk of car accidents and fatigue on the road.”

“Everyone has been very impressed by the quality of the video and audio of the system including how easy it is to use, so it has been quickly embraced by our staff.”

Warwick Prince, technical director of Instantly There, a partner of LifeSize, said after Mercy viewed the demonstration, the LifeSize equipment essentially sold itself.

“Prior to LifeSize, Mercy had a defunct, ineffective, big name video conferencing system sitting in its boardroom. When we hosted the demonstration, Mercy was immediately impressed by the quality of the system and how well it integrated with its existing infrastructure.”

Tim Fulton, country manager for Australia, LifeSize Communications said the company is at the forefront of a HD video conferencing boom, particularly within primary industries such as health and education.

“Over the past six months we’ve seen growing demand across all industries, including health and education where organisations are looking to cut down travel time and costs but can’t afford to sacrifice on quality – an engaging and true-to-life experience is paramount.”

“Many have had experience with the video conferencing systems of the past, which are expensive, offer poor quality, and as a result, are barely used. When customers like Mercy Health experience LifeSize solutions, they instantly see that we can offer a more flexible, immersive video solution. It’s because of this growing reputation that we have companies looking to LifeSize for innovative and creative HD video solutions to solve real business problems.”
